The hidden side of a handsome weather forecaster?! “Taikan Yohou” by Taino Nikke（鯛野ニッケ）

The true nature of the risingly popular, handsome weather forecaster, “Segasaki,” is that of a complete tyrant. Ha, a struggling adult manga artist on the brink, knows this all too well—because Ha lives with Segasaki and handles all the household chores… along with various other responsibilities. This situation came about because, in order to have his food, clothing, and shelter guaranteed despite not finding success as a manga artist, Ha ended up signing a contract to “do everything Segasaki tells him.” And that’s how things spiraled into this predicament…!?

I first discovered this work through Taino Nikke（鯛野ニッケ）, and at the same time learned that it won the 2023 Digital Comics Award—which made perfect sense to me!! It’s so entertaining!!! That’s because the seme, “Segasaki,” is far too much of a tyrant. (＾＾) His face is unbelievably handsome, which gives him an overwhelming presence. When he says “yes,” it’s absolutely yes. There is no fighting back. To the point that poor “Yo” can’t help but feel completely fed up.

Butthe true face of this so-called tyrantis actually that of a devoted, doting boyfriend…!?

The relationship between the two, who have known each other since their college days, is that of a introverted underclassman and an outgoing upperclassman. Why these two—so different in both their social circles and personalities—ever crossed paths is depicted in the flashback arc. With such a strong impression of who he was back then, it’s impossible not to feel confused by the Segasaki of today. He doesn’t use enough words, and he’s a tyrant, after all. (＾＾) Their misunderstandings are almost too entertaining. If you don’t put things properly into words, even what should get across simply won’t—that’s just how humans are. （Thought-provoking）

One day, Segasaki tells Yo that, on the day before a sunny forecast, one of the many things Yo is responsible for—namely, “holding him”—will be required. Despite claiming to hate Segasaki, Yo has made it a habit to watch the online weather forecast program featuring Segasaki over and over. And every time that forecast airs, Yo finds himself struggling day after day, desperately wanting to do something about how unsettled his own heart becomes.

With your heart racing and fluttering, you can’t help but wonder how the story will unfold across the pages, and before you know it, you’re unable to stop reading midway. This short-on-words tyrant believed he was already in a relationship with Yo. What on earth. And not only that—he was thinking with marriage in mind. This isn’t a matter of lacking confirmation or anything like that; it’s more like, when did that happen? At what point? Do you even know the 5W1H? All at once, the tyrant—no, Segasaki—became utterly endearing.

How these two come to face one another and openly share their feelings is what makes this story such a highlight. (＾＾)

Of course, the spicier developments are also very enjoyable, but what really stands out is how amusing Taino-sensei’s handwritten notes are on certain pages—adding another layer of charm and making the work even more engaging, and a definite point to watch for!
