I’d like to introduce “Thubanakasu haru” (BAMBOO COMICS Qpa collection), published by Takeshobo!
The following is quoted from the back cover. This review does touch on the story’s content! If you just want a quick summary!! I’d be happy if you read only the red text and highlighted sections.
“It's called ‘Hibana Syndrome’… a sickness where flowers start growing.” The treatment is―――having bodily fluids released inside you.―――
A small flower shop that opens irregularly along the roadside several times a month. No matter the season, it offers a wide variety of flowers—and the shop owner, “Mei”, possesses a mysterious charm that rivals even the blooms themselves. Completely captivated by it, postal worker “Chiaki” has been harboring an unrequited love for two years.
Just as he’s starting to gather the resolve to finally confess his feelings, Chiaki senses something off about Mei’s home during a delivery—the garden shows no signs of cultivating flowers.
Then, just as that unease sets in, he rushes toward an alarming noise coming from the back of the house—only to find Mei, his body covered in an overwhelming number of flowers―――…
From “ Thubanakasu Haru” (BAMBOO COMICS), published by Takeshobo
This is another work by Miginoyagi-sensei, who was previously featured on this site with “薫—Kuyuru—,” and once again I was completely drawn in—flowers growing from the body…?!—by a world that is beautiful yet somehow dangerous, leading to pure delight. With its distinctive sensuality, Mei-kun embodies both an alluring mystique and a fragile transience, leaving me utterly smitten. It feels like the story is actively trying to pull the reader in. It’s a trap—a deep one.
Chiaki-kun, a postal worker, has been devotedly in love with Mei-kun for two whole years without being able to confess his feelings. The only time they ever get to talk is when Mei opens his flower shop by the roadside. So earnest~~~~so adorable~~~~~~That seals it—I’m in love (me).
Delivery worker uniforms are great, aren’t they…!!!
When Chiaki-kun visits Mei-kun’s home for work and accidentally discovers his secret, he offers to help in any way he can, only to be told—much to his shock—that it’s a condition that improves by taking bodily fluids into the body. It feels unbelievable, like something out of an old fantasy tale, and he’s understandably confused—but since the other person is the one he’s been in love with, after much inner conflict, he decides to accept it if there’s anything he can do. Their physical interactions are also delightfully steamy—absolutely the best…!!!
The sudden appearance of a handsome older man (uncle)
As Mei’s uncle, who is a doctor, makes an appearance and they begin visiting the clinic he runs, the distance between the two slowly but surely starts to close. The way they gradually open their hearts to each other is wonderful, of course—but there’s also a scene here that hit me straight in my personal preferences.
This may be something some readers find difficult.Flowers have more than just petals, leaves, and buds—they also possess parts that serve as the source of nutrients essential for growth. Yes, the roots. This mysterious illness, in which flowers grow from the body, feeds on the lifeofthe person who bears them as it continues to grow. It’s painful to witness, yet unbelievably beautiful at the same time…!! It’s just too good… (^^)
I really hope you’ll read it yourself and see how the two of them end up! The final standalone chapter is incredibly satisfying as well, leaving you immersed in a blissful, happy state—so please, do give it a read…!!
